They say that wood warms you twice- once when stacking it and once when burning it. I’d say that’s a pretty accurate statement.
On Sunday, we headed over to my parents’ house to help them take care of the wood delivery. It was a perfect fall day. The sun was shining, but not too brightly, it was in the mid 60s so we kept warm while moving but rarely overheated, and there was a slight breeze. The leaves on the trees were red, golden, and brown.
It’s tough work, stacking wood. By the time we stopped for a picnic lunch from the general store, both my arms were screaming. We got about 2 cords lined up neatly in the woodshed before we called it a day, but there is still more to go. Next Sunday we will stack more. Winter is coming, and along with that the cozy heat of the woodstove. I can’t wait.
