Yesterday was a perfect day for my annual trip to the ocean. In general, I’m not a big beach goer. For one thing, I burn in about 2.5 seconds even with SPF. I do like to go to the ocean at least once a summer though, so this Sunday I met some friends from Boston at Singing Beach in Manchester-by-the-sea. There was barely a cloud in the sky all day, which made me so glad I’d bought a sun umbrella at the last minute! We arrived just before 10 to snag a good spot, and set up with our towels in the shade of the umbrella. The first dip in the water was brutal. Even though I was expecting it to be freezing (it is the Atlantic after all!) I actually gasped when the first wave hit me. That didn’t stop me from going in another two times after I’d warmed up by taking a walk along the beach. Singing beach is pretty small compared to many of the other ones, but it is in a cute town, is well taken care of. The water is so clear and we had fun climbing on the rocks and dancing in the singing sand (the far edge of the beach has sand that squeaks when you move your feet quickly through it).
By 1pm we had had enough and packed up our things. We stopped for ice cream before we left Manchester-by-the-sea, which was the perfect ending to the day by the ocean.
